Is it ok to put neosporin in my dogs ears?

my dog has bad cuts in her ears i don't know where they came from they just appeared. i don't think its necessary to take her to the vet. i have put neosporin in her ears before and it seemed to work but the cuts have reappeared.what should i do? it doesn't look infected to me but i am not a professional i don't know. should i just apply the neosporin to her ears?
